Notifications and catch-up

Quiet by default

Ctrl Room only pings you when someone @mentions you or replies to a thread you started. Rooms with new messages show in bold in the sidebar, and a number badge counts your mentions.

Per-room settings

Use the bell menu in a room's header:

• Mentions (default): only @mentions and replies to you.
• Everything: a desktop alert for every new message in the room while the tab is in the background.
• Muted: no alerts; the room is dimmed in the sidebar.

Desktop alerts

Choose Turn on desktop alerts at the bottom of the sidebar and allow notifications in your browser. Mention and reply alerts show when you're in another tab or another room. Click one to jump to the room.

Sounds

Ctrl Room plays short sounds once you've clicked or typed on the page:

• Messages: a soft tap for a new message in a room set to Everything, when you're in another room or tab.
• Mentions, replies & DMs: a chime when someone @mentions you or replies to you, unless the room is muted, and the dm sound for a new direct message, unless the conversation is muted.
• Calls: when you or someone else joins or leaves your call, and a ring when someone starts a call in the room you're looking at (until you join or dismiss it, 20 seconds at most).
• Mic: when you mute or unmute in a call.
• Sent: a tick when your message goes out. Off unless you turn it on.

Turn them off, set the volume, or switch each type on and off in Settings → Sounds, with a Play button to hear each one. Sound settings are saved on the device you set them on. Do not disturb turns every sound off.

Your status

Members of a community see who's around. Each person shows as:

• Online: a filled dot.
• Away: a hollow ring, after 5 minutes without activity on the page (or with the tab in the background). Back to Online as soon as you're active.
• In a call: a headset (or camera, with video on), and which room the call is in.
• Do not disturb: a red dot with a bar.
• Offline: nothing.

Click your avatar at the bottom of the sidebar to choose Online, Do not disturb (no sounds) or Appear offline (nobody sees you; you still see everyone). The choice is saved on that device. The People panel groups members by status, and rooms with a call going list who's in it. You show as online in a community while you have it open. Only members of a community see each other's status.

While you were gone

When you open a room with messages you haven't read, a recap appears at the top:

• How many new messages there are and who wrote them.
• The busiest threads, and their outcomes if they were closed.
• Decisions added to the room board.
• How many times you were mentioned or replied to.
• Jump to first new message.

Dismiss it with the ×. Opening a room marks it as read.
