Ctrl Room

Getting started

Create an account

Go to the Ctrl Room home page and choose Get started. You need:

  • A display name: what people see next to your messages.
  • A username: 2–32 letters, numbers or underscores. People @mention you with it.
  • An email and a password of at least 8 characters.

If email confirmation is turned on, Ctrl Room sends you a link to confirm your account before you can sign in. The link works in any browser or on any device. Open it and press the button to finish.

Forgot your password

On the sign-in page choose Forgot password? and enter your email. If there's an account for it, you get a link. Open it, press Continue, and choose a new password (at least 8 characters). Each link works once; if it's expired or used, ask for a new one.

One account works for every community you join.

Start a community

After signing in you land on Your communities. Under Start a community, fill in:

  • Icon: an emoji or a short label (optional).
  • Name: shown in the sidebar.
  • Link: the address of your community, /c/your-link. It's made from the name, and you can edit it.
  • What's it for?: a one-line description (optional).

Every new community starts with three rooms: #announcements (only mods can start posts), #general, and a voice room called lounge. You're the owner.

Join a community

Paste an invite link or code under Join with an invite, or just open the invite link. If you aren't signed in yet, Ctrl Room asks you to create an account or sign in first, then adds you to the community.

Find your way around

  • The left rail lists your communities. The + button takes you back to create or join another.
  • The sidebar lists the community's rooms, with voice rooms in their own group.
  • The header of each room has buttons for calls, the room board, search, people and notifications.
  • The gear next to the community name opens community settings.
